BROOME-WYNDHAM ITINERARY (operates in reverse)
day 1
Your "Ultimate Kimberley Adventure" starts now. You will be picked up from your accommodation and transferred to the beautiful
Gantheaume Point Beach. From there you will board the luxury catamaran K2O where you will be welcomed aboard. Depart at approx. 3.00pm and cruise north along the world famous Cable Beach. Enjoy a cocktail on the sun deck and soak up the vivid colours a Kimberley sunset.
DAY 2
Wake the next morning as the K2O passes Cape Leveque and glides into King Sound past Cockatoo Island. Enjoy an irresistible breakfast on the rear deck while the countless islands that make up the Buccaneer Archipelago begin to unravel before you. Travelling through the Koolan Island passage heading toward the world renowned Horizontal Waterfalls in the peaceful Talbot Bay. Join an excursion dinghy for a ride through the rapids of the Horizontal Falls. Then travel deep into the bottom of Talbot Bay and drift quietly through tidal rivers surrounded by massive colour stone cliffs. Then it's back to the K2O where you can enjoy your evening meal while setting course for Doubtful Bay.
DAY 3
The Kimberley is renowned for fishing and you're about to find out why. Join a fishing party and set out to a secret location. Fish is definitely on the menu today and very soon you will be catching it. While enjoying your reward of fresh fish for lunch you will steam to the Raft Point area. Onto the excursion dinghies and after a short boat ride you will have the opportunity to see some of the best-preserved Wandjina cave painting in the Kimberley. Cool off in the waterfalls at Red Cone Hill and explore the beautiful fresh water billabongs above. Spend the late afternoon either fishing or relaxing with a drink while you watch the Kimberley's setting
sun.
DAY 4
K2o weighs anchor as you wake to yet another spectacular morning and yet another equally spectacular breakfast. Shortly after your journey leads to the awesome Montgomery Reef, a massive untouched aquatic Eco - system. Glide through Turtle Ally, here you will see a huge variety of sea life including giant Mantas and many different varieties of fish and turtles. Thousands of waterfalls appear from nowhere as the tide falls quickly to uncover the massive reef that covers hundreds of square kms. Back aboard K2O to set course for the peace and
tranquility of the Kuri Bay area, but not before an opportunity to catch the evening meal.
DAY 5
Today you will visit a site of great historical significance, Camden Sound. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the site of a 19th century farming settlement. As you survey the failed Settlement ruins you start to appreciate the hardships that faced the brave pioneers. Then it's on to Brecknock Harbour to visit gravesites of these tough pioneers. Back on board the chef has prepared a delicious lunch and with the Regent just around the corner your cruise just keeps getting better. Before entering the Prince Regent River you will stop at one of the
small creeks for a fishing opportunity not to be missed. Next k2o makes way into the Prince Regent River while you enjoy the chef's gourmet seafood delight.
DAY 6
Early risers have the opportunity to pursue another fishing opportunity while the rest of the group wind there way up Camp Creek to visit the tranquil falls and inspiring gorges. Enjoy morning tea set beside a billabong lined with water lilies, look and listen to the big variety of birds in the area. Back on board k2o moves with the tide further up the river to "King Cascade". Climb high above the falls and swim in the crystal clean waterways or soak up the excitement from on board the k2o as she is moored at the base of the cascading torrent of water. Before setting course for an overnight stop at Saint George Basin take the opportunity to photograph the ancient Salt Water Crocodile, which make a regular appearance in the area.
DAY 7
The Saint George Basin is a vast Inland Sea, an adventurer's dream and the crew on board have their own secret spots to show you. The fishing and crabbing in Spitfire Creek is sensational. During lunch k2o slides quietly away toward the Magnificent Hunter River, stopping mid afternoon for a relaxing beach BBQ on Crystal Beach.
DAY 8
Leaving the Hunter having been inspired by the towering cliffs, lush vegetation and abundance of wildlife for the next stop (one of the crew's personal favourites) Bigge Island. Visit Careening Bay enroute, the site where in 1820 the explorer Philip Parker-King careened his vessel HMS Mermaid. An ancient Boab tree with the ship's name engraved in it stands as testimony to this. On
reaching Bigge Island you will visit a variety of exceptional rock art sites including several sites of the controversial Bradshaw paintings. The unusual rock formations including the site of the "lost city" and the coral reefs fringing the island are just a few things that give the area instant appeal. Did we mention the fresh rock oysters that can be found in abundance? Some as big as bread and butter plates.
DAY 9
Gliding through the night on board the K2O you wake to the smell of a cooked breakfast and the panorama of pristine beaches within Vansittart Bay. Board the expedition tenders and explore untouched beaches, fish the plentiful tidal lagoons or view some very remote art sites. Enjoy another succulent lunch on board the K2O before setting off again in the dinghies to visit the wreckage of a DC3 that went down in WWII while looking for the nearby remote airstrip of Truscott. Enjoy your evening drinks on board the K2O or take a casual stroll to collect the rare shells found on these remote
beaches. K2o weighs anchor after dining like royalty under the Kimberley moon and head north again, this time to the mighty Drysdale River.
DAY 10
After out fishing their husbands, some of of k2o's lady passengers have described their day in the Drysdale River as the "most fun I have ever had." The mighty Drysdale River has an abundance of fish and natural beauty. Visit some truly remarkable locations within this ancient area, including unusual flora and relaxing fresh water swimming holes. Catch mud crabs and observe some of the largest crocodiles you are likely to see. K2o sets off late in
the day with the next destination being the unforgettable King George River.
DAY 11
Wake in the tranquil setting of Koolama Bay, the entry to King George River. During breakfast feel the excitement rise as you wait for the tide to allow the vessels entry. An entry that itself belies the great majesty of the awe-inspiring river. Watch in amazement and disbelief as the colossal cliffs soar hundreds of feet into the air and narrow to create
two breathtaking falls of mammoth proportions. Feel the spray mist produced from billions of litres of water falling hundreds of feet as the K2O is steered expertly under the majestic falls. Climb the escarpment to take the view from which some passengers have described as "a life changing experience." K2o drops anchor for the night in full view of both enormous falls. Tonight you will dine at the Captain's table on a fine Kimberley banquet and enjoy the best of the Kimberley.
DAY 12
The only good thing about leaving the King George River is the thought of the next adventure that lies ahead. The captain has set course for the Berkeley River only a few hours away. The entry to the Berkeley River is shallow and treacherous and only the experienced captains dare enter. Once inside the calm waters of the river, set out in the excursion
dinghies to explore this spectacular river. The Berkeley River has many regal waterfalls and offers ample opportunity to swim and relax in the pristine environment. Huge towering cliffs and massive sandstone walls at times reminding you of the King George River. After dinner join in the "K2O Kimberley Quiz Night".
DAY 13
Awake early and the last opportunity to catch a Barra or explore the mighty Kimberley landscape. Journey down to the source of the river but this time you will find something very different. Have morning tea in a natural Amphitheatre where the sound of falling
water complements the serene location. More exploring and then as the tide rises, head back to the K2O and continue on to the port town of Wyndham.
DAY 14
The huge tide draws us into Cambridge Gulf and toward Wyndham. On deck the crew are busy preparing a special treat for breakfast. Then sooner than expected the port of Wyndham comes into view. After many fond farewells from fellow passengers and extended appreciation and thanks from the crew, the courtesy bus then transfers you to your accommodation in Kununurra.
